IIIF Hosting Tutorial

A step-by-step guide to start publishing IIIF Images at Curio Lane.

Welcome to our getting started guide! We know curation (and technology in general 🤔) can be a bit intimidating. It might be a bit verbose, but hopefully this tutorial is something you can follow along to try yourself or detour through some of the links to learn more about the Curio Lane platform.

Register an account

To get started, you'll need to register for an account. We also support single sign-on where you can securely use your existing Google or Microsoft account. You can find more documentation from our Accounts topic.

Navigate to the Curio Lane page, and click the Sign in link.

Click the Register link.

Fill in your name, the email address you want to use for signing in, and a secure password. Click the Register button.

Check your email and watch for a Verify email message from support@curiolane.com. Open the message, and click the Link to e-mail address verification link.

After following the verification link, you will be redirected to your projects list. Welcome to your new account!

Create a project

Once you're signed in, you can create your first project a place to keep track of all your digital artifacts and collection. To try things out with a free trial period, choose the Essential plan. You can learn more about how they work from the Projects topic, or learn about features and service plans from the Pricing page.

From your Account Dashboard, click Projects.

Click the New Project link.

Fill in your project name, choose a service plan, and pick a data region for storing and processing your data. Click the Create Project button.

After the project is provisioned (which may take a few seconds), you will be redirected to your new project's dashboard.

Publish an IIIF Image

New projects are automatically configured for IIIF services a suite of technologies for high-quality, attributed digital objects. The easiest way to try it out is to upload an image. You can learn more about International Image Interoperability Framework from our IIIF page, or learn about other media we support from our Content Services topic.

Before you begin, make sure you have an image file ready to upload. In this example, we are using the Pillars of Creation image (TIFF, 163.4 MB) published by NASA and the Space Telescope Science Institute.

From your Project Dashboard, click Upload Files.

Click the Add Files button to select an image file.

You can also drag one or more files directly from your desktop and drop them on the Uploads File dialog.

Click the Start Upload button. Wait until the file is uploaded and processing is complete. This might take a few moments depending on your internet connection and the file size.

Once the spinner has stopped and processing is complete, Click the file name link.

From the detail page, you can see more details and access the publishing links needed for the IIIF Image.

You can also follow the preview link which opens it in our hosted OpenSeadragon viewer.

Update billing

From your Account Dashboard, click Billing.

Click the Add Address link.

Fill in your name and address. Click the Update Payer button.

Click the Add Primary link.

Fill in your card payment details, and click the Add Payment Method button.

Once completed, you can always return to your billing profile to review or make additional changes later.
